NARCISSISTIC PERSONALITY DISORDER
NARCISSISTIC PERSONALITY DISORDER (NPD)
NPD is a disorder most commonly found in males between the ages of 19 and 40 and is described as a disorder in which the individual has an inflated sense of self-importance. The person believes they are stronger, smarter, wiser, or better than the average individual, we often see narcissistic traits in leaders - whether that is the leader of a household or a country. NPD requires a professional diagnosis and cannot be cured. However, self-recognition and talk therapy can help manage the symptoms.
ANTISOCIAL PERSONALITY DISORDER
ANTISOCIAL PERSONALITY DISORDER (ASPD)
ASPD is a disorder that is characterized as when an individual has complete disconnection and disregard for others. They can be impulsive, hostile, and compulsive liars. They may have physical substance dependence or substance abuse. It requires a medical diagnosis by a trained professional and cannot be cured but can be treated with therapy if the individual is aware of their issue and willing to seek help. While ASPD traits may be observed in childhood, most diagnoses are not made until adolescence or adulthood. People with Antisocial Personality Disorder (ASPD) exhibit these traits in addition to the traits of a person with narcissistic personality disorder (NPD).
GASLIGHTING
GASLIGHTING
Gaslighting is sometimes called "crazy-making," it is tactics aimed at breaking down a person’s ability to trust their own instincts and beliefs, which increases their dependency on their abuser and makes them more likely to stay in a toxic relationship.
Gaslighting increases slowly over an extended period, and often seems harmless at first. Individuals who use gaslighting techniques intentionally cross boundaries, and these boundaries may include mental, physical, emotional, and material. This type of abuse is primarily verbal and emotional, and much of it happens through fights, accusations, and comments.
